HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Fire Crews responded to the 8400 Block of North Plum for a report of a grass fire around 8:45 last night.
Initial reports indicated a 5 to 8 acre fire in an electrical right of way. When they arrived, they found a large fire in heavy vegetation moving to the north at a high rate of speed.
The perimeter of the fire was controlled and efforts were relocated to a large brush pile at the southern edge.
The fire was controlled in 20 minutes and units remained on scene for three hours working in conjunction with heavy equipment from the city of Hutchinson Public Works.
No ignition sources were found and cause is unknown.
The Hutchinson Fire Department responded with 11 units due to high winds and difficult terrain.
No injuries were reported.
