The suspect in the shooting of Hutchinson area man back on January 30 was scheduled to be in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing in the case, but someone dropped the ball and she wasn’t transported from the Butler County Jail where she is being housed.
That caused Barbara Youngblood’s attorney to ask for a bond reduction, saying that the delay in the hearing is not the defendant’s fault. Her bond is set at 536,500.00 and Sarah Sweet McKinnon with the Regional Public Defenders Officer says she believes the bond is to high. She apparently didn’t get the second page of the complaint and thought her client was only charged with two felonies when in fact she’s charged with four. Assistant District Attorney Daniel Gilligan told the judge that its unfortunate that the defendant was not transported, but considering the charges, the bond is appropriate. Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen agreed and the bond was left the same.
Youngblood is charged with attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and criminal threat. She is alleged to have shot Kevin Tinin. He phoned 911 and told of being shot and after a search by various law enforcement officers and was located in a wooded area and flown to a Wichita hospital. He was shot in the leg.
The suspect in the case was also sought during that same period of time and was eventually located near the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. She was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment, then taken to the county jail.
The hearing is now delayed until July 18. Gilligan told the judge that he will make sure a transport order is made for the next hearing, but according to court officials, there was one filed back on May 3 for the hearing Thursday. This is one of the hazards of having inmates housed out of county.
