HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Correctional Facility will host an Inmate Programs graduation ceremony at the East Unit at 400 S. Halstead on Oct. 22.
Approximately 175 inmates at HCF have successfully completed programs, such as Offender Work Force Development, Inside Out Dads, Thinking for a Change, Vocational Education and GED, during this past year. They’ll be receiving their certificates during the ceremony.
Tommy Galindo, owner of Legends Barber shop in Hutchinson, will be the guest speaker for the ceremony. Besides being a local business owner, Galindo is a mentor for inmates at HCF. Also attending the graduation ceremony will be Kansas Department of Corrections Deputy Secretary Johnnie Goddard and Dave Mullins, Director of Business and Industry at Hutchinson Community College.
Officials with the prison say programs such as those mentioned are an integral part of helping the Kansas Department of Corrections achieve its priority, which is reducing recidivism. By reducing offender recidivism, we can reduce the costs suffered by victims and by the criminal justice system.
