HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Labor released the latest unemployment numbers for cities and counties as well as the state on Friday.
Those numbers show the unemployment rate for Hutchinson in August was 4.9 percent, a drop from the number in July when the rate was 5.4 percent. That was also the rate in August of last year. The unemployment rate for Reno County was at 4.7 percent in August compared with 5.1 percent in July, but higher then August of last year when the rate was 4.6 percent.
There were 1,419 residents of the county without work last month, but 952 of those residents live in the city of Hutchinson.
Other area counties also saw drops of their unemployment rates as well while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the state was 4.6 percent, unchanged from July and increased from 4.3 percent in August 2014.
