HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 46-year-old Hutchinson man was bound over for trial in two cases Monday after a preliminary hearing.
Donald Mayer is accused in one case of being in a high-speed chase and a separate drug case.
In one case, Mayer is charged with two alternate counts of felony flee and elude. One of the charges alleges he had five or more moving violations during the chase and the other alleges that he was reckless in his driving.
This case started around 1:45 a.m. on March 1 when sheriff deputies attempted to stop a Chevy Blazer for failing to signal a turn and also for an obstructed license plate. They allege that Mayer refused to stop and led officers from the Sheriff’s Department, Hutchinson Police and South Hutchinson Police on a chase that lasted an hour and 24 minutes.
The chase was primarily in the southern and eastern part of the city of Hutchinson and passed through South Hutchinson twice. At one point, the chase went as far south as Yoder, but then returned back to the Hutchinson area. He eventually pulled into the parking lot where officers park their vehicles at the law enforcement center.
The other case involves Hutchinson Police who arrested him for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction and possession of drug paraphernalia. This arrest came on Feb. 2.
With him being bound over for trial, the case now moves to arraignment next month.
