HUTCHINSON, Kan. – McCandless Elementary School at 700 N. Baker in Hutchinson was placed on a brief lockdown Tuesday morning after an apparent robbery.
Police say officers were called just after 10:30 a.m. to Advance Payday Loan, 921 E. 4th Street, for a reported robbery. Police Lt. Marty Robertson told us that witnesses indicate a black male wearing a hoodie parked his vehicle in the parking lot, entered the store and robbed that business, then left southbound on Severance.
He was believed to have been armed when he entered the payday loan company.
As a precaution, McCandless Elementary School was placed on lockdown. While the school was not believed to be in any real danger, it was close enough that the officers were concerned enough to believe a lockdown was necessary.
The school was released from lockdown after officers were able to search and believed that the man had left the area.
Police are still investigating the incident and no arrests have been made in the case. If you have any information, call police at 694-2816. You can also call Crime Stoppers of Reno County at 694-2666.
