HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 26-year-old Hutchinson man bound over for trial on a number of felony and misdemeanor charges is scheduled to be in court Friday where he may enter a plea.

Christopher A. Vanwye is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of criminal discharge of a firearm, possession of stolen property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

He’s accused of threatening his mother’s fiance during an altercation back on Dec. 15, 2014. He’s alleged to have put the gun to the head of Delbert East while threatening him.

The suspect’s mother told the court during the preliminary hearing that her son was suicidal and that she had never seen him that way. Maria Vanwye testified that her son put the gun to his head and she pushed the chair he was in and the gun went off, missing her son, but going through a wall. This happened at a home in the 800 block of West 14th. The bullet entered a neighbor’s home through a window and lodged in some drywall in that home.

Again, Vanwye is scheduled for a hearing where he may enter a plea in the case, however, that is always subject to change. He could change his mind, or they could continue the hearing to continue negotiations. We’ll let you know.
