HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Sheriff Randy Henderson says the Reno County Correctional Facility at 1800 S. Severance is officially open with the successful move of inmates early Wednesday morning.
The old Reno County Jail at 210 W. 1st and the Jail Annex in Hutchinson are closed and renovation of this area will start shortly.
This area will provide a new evidence holding facility, offender registry office, security office, inmate holding for court as well as non court functions from the courthouse.
The jail was built after county voters approved a half cent sales tax. Not only did the sales tax go to build the new jail, it will also include moving some county offices to now closed county jail annex.
Other plans for the money raised include adding a new entrance to the courthouse and doing some improvements to the Law Enforcement Center.
The new 77-thousand plus square foot jail was built on land purchased from the Kansas Department of Corrections on a 10-acre lot.
