HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 38-year-old Hutchinson woman sustained injuries early Sunday when she apparently fell asleep while driving.

Emergency officials responded to the junction of U.S. 50 and Obee Road on the report of the accident.

Kelly Pitchford was traveling northbound on Obee Road, according to the Reno County Sheriff’s Department, when she says she fell asleep. Her vehicle crossed the road and struck a field access road on the west side of Obee. The airbags in the vehicle deployed and the victim was wearing her seat belt, according to a Reno County Sheriff Deputy who worked the accident.

Pitchford was transported by Reno County E.M.S. to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident occurred around 9:20 a.m. east of Hutchinson.
