HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Reno County Commissioners Tuesday made quick work of their agenda including accepting a bid for work on the current Reno County Jail Annex.
That building will eventually house some county departments once the sheriff’s office moves the inmates housed there to the new Reno County Correctional Facility which is nearing completion on the southeast side of the city.
The commission awarded the bid to Regier Construction of Newton at a cost of $1,898,000. That bid was one of five received by the county and will be well under the estimated cost. That contract will also call for an additional $22,000 for the addition of a dumb waiter which will allow county workers to bring heavier items to an upper level.
They also approved allowing the county to work toward a contract with B-G Consultants to provide the engineering work for rural sewer district 8 which is made up of the Highlands Addition. Plans will include scraping the current sewer plan and build a lagoon system at a cost of around a million dollars. They will be looking for a location including north of the Highlands which would be in Rice County.
The commission also approved the issues concerning road work for the Prairie Dunes and Linksland Drive project which will include special assessments to residents who live in that area.
