HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Jury selection for a 48-year-old man is expected to get under way in District Court Tuesday.
Woodson Crable is facing trial on nine felony counts, including three counts of rape, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated battery and criminal threat.
The first case involves two incidents involving one of two different victims. The first occurred back on Dec. 26, 2011, when the victim says she was raped on two occasions and threatened during the second. The second occurred on Dec. 28 of that same year when he asked her to pick him up. They ended up at her apartment where she says they again began to argue and he threatened to kill her if she didn’t admit to having sex with her half brother, which she says never happened. He’s then accused of again forcing her into sex.
The second victim told Sheriff investigators of being raped twice inside Crable’s home. She was eventually able to leave and went back to her home in Nickerson. Crable then allegedly went there and wanted her to go back to Hutchinson. She refused, but he forced her into the back seat of his vehicle. Somehow, she was able to call 911 and Sheriff’s Officers were dispatched to the report of the disturbance in Nickerson. When they arrived, they made contact with the victim who reported that she had been battered by Crable at that location and also told them what happened earlier. These incidents occurred on April 9 and 10 of 2014.
He’ll be represented by John Henderson, the newest attorney with the Regional Public Defender’s Office, after the departure of Justin Bravi and Kelly Driscoll. However, Henderson is no rookie, having worked for the Sedgwick County Public Defender’s Office before moving to the Hutchinson office just a week ago.
Crable remains jailed on a $750,000 bond.
