HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The promoters of the Hutchinson Follies are seeking local talent. if you sing sing or dance, then the Follies wants you.
The Follies, which is a musical revue of life in Hutchinson, took a 15-year hiatus but it’s back this year for a salute to soldiers and the military.
One of the most successful Follies came when the city’s two hospitals, St. Elizabeth’s and Grace Hospital, decided to close their doors and create Hutchinson Hospital, now known as Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. The Follies became a fund-raiser for the new hospital and honored the two entities for putting Hutchinson first and their own needs second.
This year’s big event, which has filled Memorial Hall in downtown Hutchinson in the past, is Nov. 5-7.
The original event in 1937 was brought to Hutchinson by a New York production company. But the Follies quickly evolved into a truly local event. It was spearheaded by Patty Carey, founder of the Kansas Cosmosphere.
Before this year’s Follies can be deemed a success, organizers need the talents of Reno County residents.
Auditions are Aug. 15 and 16 at Stage 9 on Main St and at the former Hayes Furniture store, 2 North Main. Those 18 years and older are eligible to audition. Fill out the audition form at www.hutchinsonfollies.com to receive a time and location for your audition.
