A 34-year-old Hutchinson mans effort to get out of jail while he awaits the outcome of his latest criminal case fell on deaf ears when Judge Joe McCarville denied a request for his release. Curtis Prebble is charged with burglary of a dwelling, and felony theft.
Prebble told the judge that he wants out because he wants to attend school to try to turn his life around. The problem is, his history is working against him. He’s currently on corrections for a theft conviction occurring back in June of last year.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell noted that Prebble has as many as 42-priors convictions, has absconded 7-times. He called Prebble a “huge flight risk.” Although the formal complaint only indicates the theft of a number of DVD’s, Maxwell told the court that he also stole a rifle and camera during the latest burglary This occurring back on April 30.
Prebble told the judge that he would wear a bracelet, whatever it takes, but the judge wouldn’t budge on letting him out. The bond is not all that high, only 5-thousand dollars. Apparently that is to much for him to post.
They did set a hearing on the burglary case for August 22.
