Two arrested on drug and stolen property charges

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Two people were taken to jail Monday on a variety of charges after allegedly being caught in a stolen vehicle.

23-year-old Jacob Elzey and 21-year-old Mariah D, Lyddane of Lyons both face charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of depressants with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stole property. Elzey also charged with having no drivers license.

The arrest of the two occurring about 8:40 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of East 4th. They were reportedly in a stolen Ford Ranger.

Elzey has another case pending where he’s charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, distribution of amphetamine, possession of alprazolam with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, personal use drug paraphernalia, interference with law enforcement and criminal damage.

He was arrested back in January along with Nicole Moore in the 500 block of North Van Buren. Apparently an officer saw the two in a vehicle and they both attempted to flee when the officer stopped the vehicle and broke a fence in the process. Elzey is then alleged to have given a different name to officers.

Elzey’s bond in the lates case is set at $31,500 while Lyddane’s bond is $19,000.

Both made a first appearance in court Tuesday morning and bonds were left the same. Both will be back in court on July 15 for a status hearing.

Hutch man bound over for trial on aggravated battery charge

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 20-year-old man has charged with aggravated battery for an incident back on March 24 was back before a judge Tuesday and was bound over for trial.

Cody Andrew Martin is accused of striking another individual with a baseball bat. That person was apparently trying to break up a fight between Martin and another person. He suffered injuries to his forehead as a result.

Martin has stated in court earlier that he only swung the bat once and hit the wrong person. He had told Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen that he was using the bat as a defensive move while the fight was going on. Ironically, the hearing Tuesday was before that same judge who found there was enough evidence to send the case to trial.

Arraignment in the case will be on August 3. Martin is free on bond.

Ex-con expected back in court on aggravated assault charge

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 34-year-old ex-con who was recently discharged from prison is expected back in court Wednesday to hear any charge the state have filed against him.

Alonzo Moore was arrestedon June 30 is suspicion of committing an aggravated assault where he allegedly threatened a 17-year-old female with a knife in the 200 block of East 4th.

Moore is jailed on a $5,000 bond. He was also advised of criminal trespass at the Sunflower Inn at 322 E. 4th.

Moore served time in prison for convictions of aggravated assault, two counts of theft and flee and elude for cases going back to 2012. He was discharged from that sentence on May 11.
