HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Fireworks go on sale Tuesday and the Hutchinson Fire Department reminds citizens that only fireworks that don’t travel over six feet in any direction can be sold or shot off in the city and county.

Fireworks can be discharged from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. starting Tuesday and running through July 4th.

Fireworks that travel more than six feet in any direction are banned from use including aerial cakes, roman candles, rockets, missiles, mines, shells, and flying spinners, etc. It should be noted that this limitation does not include South Hutchinson.

Also, fireworks must be discharged on residential property with permission of the property owner.

The Fire Chief has the authority to ban the discharge of fireworks anytime conditions warrant.

Fireworks cannot be discharged on public property (Roads, Streets, Parks, etc.).

The fire department also asks people to refrain from shooting fireworks during windy conditions. Have a garden hose on hand and wet down grass before shooting fireworks. Use caution when discharging fireworks and monitor children.

The Hutchinson Fire Department will be patrolling neighborhoods this year. Illegal fireworks will be confiscated and a summons issued.

Hutchinson-Reno County Emergency Dispatch will be staffing a non-emergency firework complaint line from June 30th to July 4th. The number is 620-694-2789. Please utilize this line to keep 911 lines free.
