HUTCHINSON- A Hutchinson teen was injured in an accident during a high-speed chase on Thursday that started in Rice and ended in Reno County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a car driven by 24-year-old Deven K Monaghan, of Nickerson, was being pursued by Rice County deputies, after they were alerted by Reno County authorities that they were looking for him. The chase came south into Reno County and eventually Hutchinson where SO and HPD became involved along with the Kansas Highway Patrol
The vehicles were traveling southbound on Adams when Monaghan turned into a private residence to turn around and go back northbound on Adams. As the was turning it struck a patrol car.
At that time, a passenger 18-year-old , Megan Strawn, started to exit Monaghan’s vehicle, when he put the car in reverse, and backed into a Reno County Sheriffs patrol cruiser pinning Strawn between the two vehicles. Monaghan’s vehicle then struck a house. Strawn was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
Monaghan who is wanted by Reno County on several warrants was taken into custody by the Rice County Sheriffs office where he will face charges in connection with the chase.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A chase that started in Rice County ended with a patrol car and the chase vehicle coming together in the 1800 block of North Adams.
Law enforcement says that a Rice County sheriffs officer became involved in a chase on Plum Street Thursday afternoon. The high Speed chase came into Reno County and eventually Hutchinson where the Reno County Sheriff’s Office and Hutchinson Police became involve.
The suspects car was attempting to make a U-turn in a front yard when a female passenger tried to exit the vehicle. As she did, the driver of the car backed up and pinned the female between her car door and the front of a patrol cruiser. The woman was taken by EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment while the driver, who has outstanding warrants in Reno County was taken into custody by the Rice County Sheriffs office.
No names were released and the Rice County Sheriff’s Office will handle the case from here and hope to release more information later.
