HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Kansas State Fair Board met via conference call for a short time Wednesday morning to go through two items.
The first was an executive session in which the board took the first steps into replacing current general manager Denny Stoecklein who will step down from his position July 17. No action was taken on the matter.
The other matter taken up this morning was the approval to pursue a grant opportunity which might make the fair ground safer for those who use the RV park. The fair will apply for a grant through FEMA that would build a new bathroom and shower facility that would also be used as a safe room in the event of severe weather. According to Stoecklein, the facility would be located at the north end of the ground near the current facility, and could also be used during some non-fair events. The grant was brought to the attention of the fair by Reno County Emergency management.
No word on when the grant will be awarded.
