HUTCHINSON, Kan. — At approximately 12:53 a.m., officers of the Hutchinson Police Department were dispatched to 811 N. Van Buren regarding a “trouble with subject” call.
The reporting party claimed that the subject confessed to committing a murder and had been armed with a knife.
As officers responded, they were confronted with an irate man in the residence, along with three small children. The man made threats of harm against the officers. He then began breaking windows out of the residence from inside.
The officers quickly became concerned for the welfare of the children and, as the officers removed the children from the residence, the man threw objects at the officers, including a knife. Officers fired shots from their patrol rifles and ended this dangerous situation resulting in the death of 22-year-old Jonathan P. Wilson.
The investigation into this officer-involved shooting is being led by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
It is now believed that this individual was involved in the killing of the female found in the county yesterday. That case is now being ruled a homicide.
As this investigation continued throughout the night, a lead was developed on a male suspect. It’s now believed to be Wilson.
As we first reported on Hutch Post, the Sheriff’s Office, along with the KBI, began investigating the found body in a small creek near 43rd & Riverton Road. The Sheriff’s Office says a passerby apparently discovered the woman’s body Monday afternoon.
Sheriff Randy Henderson says they believe they know who the female is, but are waiting official word from the coroner with the Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center.
