HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The unemployment rate in Hutchinson jumped some in May, going from 4.3 percent in April to 4.7 percent in May. That’s also higher then May of 2014 when the rate was 4.4 percent.
However the rate for Reno County was only up slightly, going to 4.4 percent in May. It was at 4.3 percent in April. The counties rate a year ago in May was at 4.2 percent.
According to the numbers released Friday from the Kansas Department of Labor, there were 1,387 residents in Reno county looking for work, compared with 1,378 last month.
As far as neighboring counties, Kingman County saw the biggest increase going from 4.5 percent in April to 5.1 percent in May. The other counties saw slight increases in their rates.
The state’s May seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.4 percent, up from 4.3 percent in April and down from 4.5 percent in May 2014.
