HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 21-year-old man who was coaching at Trinity Catholic School in Hutchinson and taken to jail on child sex charges was in court Tuesday where he entered a “guilty” plea to one count aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
The charge against Patrick Kent Blevins falls under Jessica’s Law meaning life sentence with no chance of parole for 25-years.
The arrest coming from incidents with a number of boys under the age of 14 after an investigation by Hutchinson Police. The incidents involving the six boys occurring between January 2012 and March of this year.
The state started off with three victims, then learned of a possible fourth. Blevins then did an interview with police where the total came up to six. District Attorney Keith Schroeder told us that he agreed to plea on the one count, so the boys would not have to testify and also because even the one counts sends him away to prison for at least 25-years.
He also waived his right to appeal any lawful sentence, but the sentence in Jessica’s Law cases are set with the life sentence.
Schroeder had indicated earlier that none of the incidents occurred at any school or during any school activity.
Judge Joe McCarville set sentencing for June 5.
Here’s some comments with District Attorney Keith Schroeder on agreeing to the plea deal with the defendant and his attorney, Sarah Sweet-McKinnon.
