HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a 
new gas station on the Walmart property while at the same time keeping a conditional use permit tabled for the Mervis Railcar project.
Murphy Oil wants to build a small filling station at the site where a similar operation stood between 2002 and 2008. The commission also approved a proposal to ease sign restrictions for businesses in the C-2 commercial district. The issue came forward when Hutchinson Regional Medical Center asked that the restrictions be eased so they could have better signage around its facility for those entering the facility. Both of those matters will go before the City Council during its May 5 meeting. The commission also kept the Mervis Railcar conditional use permit on the table until the company can present a revised CUP to the commission.
No word on when that might happen.
