HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Hutchinson Public Schools Board of Education Monday learned the Community Budget Committee best liked an elementary reconfiguration proposal that would make one of the elementary schools smaller.
The preference of the group was a plan that would remove a “track” of classes out of McCandless Elementary School. A track of classes is one each of kindergarten through sixth grade.
To remove a track, the district will need to redraw elementary school boundaries, a process that last occurred in 2010. Since that time, Hutchinson’s population has continued to shift, putting more enrollment stress on schools farther north in the community and less to the south.
The Board took no final action on any of the proposals but will do so at the April 27 meeting. Later this spring, Dr. Kiblinger will present the Board with a companion proposal to start a boundary study of K-6 schools. Any changes in school configurations or boundaries would not occur until the 2016-17 school year.
