HAVEN, Kan. – After several hours of discussion, the Haven USD 312 School Board approved the 
proposed closing of the Mount Hope Elementary School during Monday evening’s regular meeting.
The recommendation to close the building came earlier this month at the suggestion of Superintendent Rick White. It was two years ago that the School Board approved relocating the Pleasant View Academy to Mount Hope, hoping to expand the facilities enrollment from outside the district. But with an enrollment of only 30-40 students and the expense of keeping the facility running, the school district voted to close the building again. As with an earlier meeting, it was a split vote to close the facility.
The district is trying to cut more than a half million dollars from the budget over the next two years.
