Two of six arrested in drug sting at area high schools make court appearances

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two people arrested in association with a under cover drug investigation at three Hutchinson area high schools made their initial court appearances where they were read the formal charges against them.

21-year-old Jonathan Thiessen is actually charged in two cases. In one case, he’s charged with the sale of marijuana within a thousand feet of a school. The crime is alleged to have occurred back on November 16, 2014. In the other case, he’s charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. These crimes occurring on March 20, the day he was arrested.

19-year-old Jaeden Kidd was also in court and the single charge against her is the sale of marijuana within a thousand feet of a school. She is alleged to have sold the drugs on November 21, 2014.

The case against the two centers on the Hutchinson / Reno County Drug Enforcement Unit and the Reno County Sheriff’s Office investigation into drug related to activity at three local high schools. This investigation started over five months ago, utilizing an undercover officer posing as a high school student. The schools involved were Hutchinson High School, Nickerson High School and Buhler High School.

There were also four juveniles arrested and some were allegedly selling LSD, amphetamines and marijuana. There cases will be prosecuted through juvenile court.

Other arrest could still be coming according to officials.
