WICHITA, Kan. — A 32-year-old Hutchinson man has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction in a federal grand jury indictment. Justin John Michael Cook is also charged with one count of unlawful possession of ammunition after a felony conviction. The crimes allegedly occurred Dec. 17, 2014, in Sterling.
He was sentenced to prison on methamphetamine related charges by District Judge Tim Chambers back in September of 2011. The judge gave him three years and a month for that conviction.
Cook has an extensive criminal history, including five burglary convictions in 2003, one in Texas and four locally. He also had a number of convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm in Sedgwick County, plus an extensive juvenile history.
If convicted on the federal charges, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each count.
