HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commissioners have decided to pursue the idea of expanding the commission to five members, something commissioner Dan Deming has been pushing for, while the others earlier didn’t see the need. That has now changed with all three commissioners willing to form a committee to look at the pros and cons of the idea.
They will seek volunteers over the next two weeks to be on the committee, which will consist of nine members from the county. Each commissioner will choose three to the committee. The three will not be a part of the committee as we first reported, but can be present when the committee meets.
The county commission will divide the county into five districts and the committee will consider the pros and cons of having five commissioners as opposed to three. This would be done apparently for information purposes and would not make any recommendations on the matter.
The commission at some point could send the measure to county voters, who have to make the final decision, in the fall of 2016.
Those interested in being on this committee need to apply with the county within the next two weeks.
The commission also approved the Sheriff Department’s request to begin the process of purchasing two used replacement vehicles at a cost not to exceed $39,000. They also granted permission to Public Works to purchase a 2015 Ford F-150 half ton 4×4 at a cost of $26,838.
