HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Local firefighters were busy Thursday with three calls close together. It started around 2:40 p.m., when they responded to the 200 block of West 6th for a reported structure fire. When they arrived, they found a grass fire which had spread to the exterior of the structure.
The fire was controlled in five minutes, while units remained on scene for overhaul. Preliminary damage is estimated at $500 and was mainly to the exterior siding of the house.
The home was vacant at the time of the fire and appeared to have started by an illegal burn barrel.
While on scene of that fire, Hutchinson firefighters then responded to an injury accident at the intersection of K-61 and Whiteside Rd. At that same time, they responded to the 6300 block of West Morgan for a grass fire which was quickly extinguished.
