HUTCHINSON, Kan. – With more and more wind energy companies coming on line the competition in the renewable energy market is getting tough.
And the main players are starting to feel the squeeze. In the latest data acquired by Renewable Energy World the three main players, GE, Siemens, and Vestas have all felt the extra competition from growing companies in China. GE would seem to be the hardest hit as the American conglomerate fell from the number one producer of wind power to 6th in the world. Siemens which was briefly number two fell to 4th and Vestas has once again become the number one wind power producer.
Vestas underwent a major transformation last year by shedding 12 factories and nearly a third of its workforce. Business has been so strong in the US that the company plans to hire back about 450 workers in Colorado. Vestas now owns about 13% of the market share with Enercon and Goldwind, both in China, making up 10% of the market each.
Siemens, which saw wind orders in the first quarter fall by 44%, has now fallen from a 10% share of the market to just 7%.
