Two arrested on drug charges formally charged
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The two local women arrested in a methamphetamine case over the weekend were back in court Wednesday to hear then formal reading of the complaint against them.
49-year-old Barbara Sunken has been formally charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package, while 36-year-old Kelly Blevins is charged with possession of meth, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
It was on Sunday January 25, when the Reno County Drug Unit served a search warrant on a home in the 600 block of West 13th. Sunken apparently gave detectives a zip-lock bag of a crystal substance which weighed about five grams. She also apparently had some other baggies and a digital scales. After being read her Miranda rights, she’s told detectives that she sold meth to “live” and support her habit. She was reportedly smoking meth from a pipe when drug unit detectives arrived. Located in a bedroom believed to belong to Blevins, a zipper pouch that contained suspected marijuana was found. Ironically, sitting next to a court document with her name on it was a glass pipe which showed meth residue.
Blevins has prior convictions for drugs going back to 2003 and 2004. She also has a case pending from 2013, according to statements made in court.
Both are free on bond and their cases now move to a waiver-status docket next month.
