HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Local firefighters responded to the 5000 block of Panorama for a grass fire on Sunday and found less than 1 acre of grass on fire. The fire was controlled in five minutes. The fire was started by a burn barrel. That was reported just after 4 p.m.
After arrival on Panorama at 4:17 p.m., units were dispatched to a structure fire in the 400 block of Liberty Street. When they arrived there, heavy smoke was coming from the residence.
That fire was controlled in 20 minutes with units on scene for two hours. The fire was ruled undetermined with an electrical cord not being ruled out. Damage is estimated at $28,000.
There were two people in the residence at the time of the fire, neither was injured. Three firefighters received minor electrical shocks while fighting the fire, all refused treatment at the scene.
The occupant denied assistance from Red Cross.
