HUTCHINSON, Kan. —A 35-year-old man who may be in this country illegally appeared before a judge via-video from the Reno County Jail this morning on two felonies and one misdemeanor.
Tomas Villegas De Aquino is charged with two counts of aggravated battery and the misdemeanor count of domestic battery. He’s alleged to have attacked two individuals with a sharp object, possibly a knife or screw driver causing injury to both. He’s also accused of battering a Hutchinson woman at a west side Hutchinson home. These crimes allegedly occurring on Dec. 23.
The two felonies could see him serve just under two years in prison on each count. He was told of the charges and possible penalties using an interpreter.
Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson indicated that there is an immigration hold on the defendant as well as the felony charges.
His bond remains at $20,000 and his case will move to a waiver-status docket next month.
