HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A very busy period for the Hutchinson Fire Department continued over the weekend, after a fire broke out at a local motel Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the 2600 block of East 4th for a structure fire at the Sunset Motel. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the roof and soffit vent area.
The fire was controlled in 30-minutes. Units were on scene for two hours. Damage is estimated at $75,000 which was sustained in the laundry area and the attic in the south wing of the motel.
The cause of the fire appears to be electrical after a nail had been driven through the wiring. This wing didn’tt have any occupants, but a total of eight rooms received some type of damage. No one was injured in the fire.
