HUTCHINSON, Kan. — We have confirmed that the eight-year-old boy critically burned in the apartment fire in Christmas Eve has died. Caiden Adams died at Via Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. That is where he was taken shortly after he was found at the fire scene.
He was one of eight residents in the apartment building at 416 West 1st when the fire broke out early in the morning.
When Hutchinson firefighters arrived, the two-and-a-half story structure was fully involved with fire. The building is an old home converted into apartments.
Fire Chief Kim Forbes told Hutch Post that all eight residents were taken to the hospital. In addition to the eight-year-old, two others suffered smoke inhalation, one critically and the third serious. The others were treated for minor smoke inhalation.
Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire was electrical. The building was a total loss.
