HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Health Department will begin administering flu vaccines starting Wednesday.Screen-Shot-2014-09-30-at-5.54.14-PM.png

There are several choices of vaccines this year. The first is the quadrivalent injection vaccine which is available to those six months and older. Those over two years of age can get the nasal vaccine instead of a shot. These vaccines cover two types of  influenza. The cost is $32. The health department also offers a high-dose vaccine for those who are 65 and older, which may help produce a better immune response for seniors. The cost of that vaccine is $46.

Most major insurance companies will cover the cost of the vaccine, including Medicare and Medicaid.  Children who qualify for the Vaccines for Children program can be vaccinated for free. The CDC recommends that everyone six months or older get an annual flu shot. It takes about two weeks for the vaccination to work, so now is the time to get your flu shot.

For more information you can contact the Reno County Health Department at 620-694-2900.
