Hutch man charged in assault case scheduled for hearing Wednesday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 33-year-old Hutchinson man was taken to jail back in November after an altercation where he allegedly pointed and discharged a gun is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Nicholas Espinoza was taken to jail on charges of aggravated assault, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal discharge of a firearm, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
He was arrested after 20-year-old Jennifer Rutan told police that Espinoza pointed a gun at her. He is also alleged to have fired the gun at some point.
He was released from Community Corrections back in May for a drug conviction from May of 2011 and is now free in this case on a $12,000 bond.

Man arrested after altercation scheduled for court Wednesday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 24-year-old Hutchinson man arrested around back on September 15, after he allegedly battered a woman so severely that she had to be taken to the hospital for treatment is expected back before a judge Wednesday for the formal reading of charges.
Justin T. Brown was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and theft. He’s accused of punching the victim in the face with a closed fist, then kicking her when she was on the ground. She was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries which included a broken arm.
He was also arrested on three warrants for other cases, including failing to appear for arraignment for domestic battery charge and no driver’s license, and a pretrial hearing for illegal consumption of liquor.
This is the man who stated in an earlier hearing that he needed a bond reduction because of having 11 kids.
He remains jailed on a $32,000 bond.

Hutchinson man faces hearing in pot distribution case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 23-year-old Hutchinson man arrested back in February is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday on marijuana distribution charges.
Christopher Boyd is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package drugs for sale, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and personal use drug paraphernalia.
Boyd was arrested after a drug related search was done on his home in the 600 block of West 7th. Law enforcement officers reported that they found a blue back pack that contained a glass jar with the suspected marijuana. Also found was $1,652 in cash, pipes with burnt residue and in his car was a digital scale with suspected marijuana.
He’s currently free on bond.
