HUTCHINSON, Kan. — With virtually no comments, the Reno County Commission approved the budget for 2015 which calls for a one mill increase for next year. The one mill increase will be used for infrastructure needs, mainly roads.
County Administrator Gary Meagher commented that the county has around 600 miles of roads to take care of and they only work on about 25 miles of those roads each year. He says this won’t solve all the problems, but will help.
Commissioner Dan Deming again pushed to have $5,000 added to the budget for Downtown Development. He said if they wouldn’t consider $5,000, perhaps a lesser amount such as $500 or $1,000, but the other two commissioners stuck by their guns and agreed that it wouldn’t be fair to other communities in the county.
Tim Dressman and Jim Sietnator, with Downtown Development, were present and Dressman—before the public hearing—thanked the commission for its prior support.
Dressman thanks commission. The county also approved other matters in relation to the budget and decided to have the County Planning Department continue putting together new zoning regulations before scheduling any public meetings over the issue. That could take some time yet to complete.
