HUTCHINSON, Kan. — While Siemens continues its effort to secure orders throughout the Americas, it will soon fall back into third place among the big three wind turbine manufacturers in the US market.
According to the American Wind Energy Association, GE continued to lead the way in wind turbine production in the US. And while Siemens is currently second, a large number of order by Vestas will push them ahead of Siemens for the number two spot later this year. Of the 478 turbines installed this year, all but 19 were from GE. With GE winning a large number of orders in Texas, that trend will continue. Vestas has also been able to tap into the Texas market. With uncertainty in the US about production tax credits, Siemens went north and south of the US borders securing large orders in Canada and South America.
In the US, Siemens continues its strong presence in Iowa where it is filling an order for more than 440 turbines for Mid American Energy in Iowa.
