The Kansas Department of Health and Environment have issued blue-green algae warnings for some lakes in Kansas, but so far none in the immediate area.
There are warnings for Marion reservoir in Marion County, and Memorial Park Lake (Veteran’s Lake), in Barton County.
When a warning is issued, you, your pets and livestock should avoid drinking the water, plus water contact is prohibited. Avoid swimming, wading or other activities with full body contact of lake water. You should also clean fish and rinse with clean water, consume only the fillet portion, and discard all other parts
Don’t allow pets to eat dried algae. If lake water contacts skin or pet fur, wash with clean potable water as soon as possible and avoid areas of visible algae accumulation.
These warnings could effect plans on these lakes for the Fourth of July.
