HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Hutchinson man with two cases pending was in court Wednesday morning where he was arrested by Hutchinson Police for a new case that involves stalking and violation of a protection from abuse order.

Matthew Perez is accused of stalking a Hutchinson woman after she filed a protection from abuse order which was signed by Judge Joe McCarville. The first incident occurred on June 12.

But, Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell said in court Wednesday that he had filed a new case alleging the same thing occurred on June 27. There was a warrant for his arrest, so officers placed cuffs on him and took him to jail. Prior to that, Maxwell requested a bond in the new case of $10,000, then wanted the bond revoked in the first case and a new bond set at $20,000. Maxwell told the court, that on Tuesday, the victim reported more unwanted contact from Perez and that he called her three more times after she made the reports.

Perez commented that she had also contacted him and apologized to the court. Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen denied the state’s request and set bond for both cases at $15,000.

Perez has a third case pending where he’s charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Judge McEwen set a status hearing for all the cases for August 12.
