Jeremy Jiles

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 26-year-old man arrested recently for the sale of drugs and charged with racketeering was in court Wednesday morning on that case, but also for a case from last year. In that case, Jeremy Jiles waived his preliminary hearing.

Jiles was arrested on Sept. 20, 2013, and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package, personal use drug paraphernalia and no tax stamp. He’s accused of having more then 450 grams of marijuana, as well as packaging materials.

With the waiver of the preliminary hearing, this case will move before Judge Tim Chambers for arraignment on August 4.

The three cases from this year are combined into one complaint and include a charge of racketeering. There’s some question as to whether he will be able to retain Wichita Attorney Charlie O’Hara to represent him. O’Hara says he’s still negotiating with the family, so Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen continued that case to August 13, where a status hearing on the matter will be held.

The latest arrest occurred in June where he was arrested for being in possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package drugs, possession of a personal use drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana. But, he had three other cases pending, including an earlier case from this year.

The Reno County Drug Unit served a search warrant on his home in the 100 block of George.. They allege that they found two vacuum sealed bags with marijuana. They also claim to have found a digital scale with marijuana residue on it, two gallon size zip-lock baggies with green vegetation, as well as additional new bags. Officers say they also found a pair of brass knuckles in a dresser drawer.

The other two cases combined into that one complaint include charges from an arrest in January and February of this year, again for the sale of marijuana.

Bond in the case remains well over a million dollars.
