HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County did its part in closing two railroad-grade crossings southwest of Hutchinson recently. Now Union pacific is holding up their end of the deal.
Reno County Commissioners will seek approval on an agreement with KDOT and UP to make improvements to two grade crossings in the county. The two are located at the UP crossing at K-61 and Red Rock Road, and K-61 and Sterling Road. The Red Rock crossing is located two miles southwest of Partridge and the Sterling Road crossing is about four miles southwest of Arlington. The work will include a new grade crossing along with crossing signals and gates at both locations. Union Pacific is making the improvements as part of an agreement with the county to close two other crossings in the county. UP has been trying to limit the number of crossings in the county, especially along K-61 highway southwest of Hutchinson.
The matter comes up for action during tomorrow’s county commission meeting starting at 9 a.m. at the Reno County Court House.
