HUTCHINSON, Kan. – One of two people arrested in association with the theft a large amount of copper from various businesses and private individuals entered a plea in the case last week.

28-year-old Robin Davis along with 30-year-old Anthony Treaster are both charged in the case and she apparently entered pleas as charged for felony theft for stealing copper valued between $25,000, but less then $100,000. District Attorney Keith Schroeder says he estimates the total value of copper taken as well as damage to the air conditioning units at the various businesses at around $98,000.

The state in their complaint says the crimes occurred between February 24, and April 2. Copper was stolen from New Smoke, Reno County Head Start, the Salvation Army, L.R Boyd & Company, Old Mission Heritage Funeral Home, Eggers Investments and Kelly J. Graber and the old Betts Bakery.

Davis also entered pleas to conspiracy to commit theft and five counts of making false information for taking copper to Midwest Iron and Metal in February and March of this year.

Both sides will be able to argue over the sentence when that occurs next month. Schroeder says he’s taking these thefts very serious because of who they stole the copper from.

Treaster has yet to enter a plea in the case, but is scheduled to be back in court on July 23, as a part of a waiver status docket. He has prior convictions for possession of drugs and criminal possession of weapons for cases going back to 2011.
