A Newton woman accused of stealing from the The Newton Chamber of Commerce’s Newton Bucks program will not have to spend more time behind bars.
A Harvey County judge sentenced Kayla Tillery to 45 months in prison, which was amended to 24 months probation. The judge said Tillery served time on the forgery charge during her 45-day stay.
Tillery pleaded no contest to the charges in April. She was accused of printing thousands of dollars of Newton Bucks, and giving them away to friends and family. The crime cost local businesses about $60,000. Tillery served time in prison for similar crimes in Stafford and Barton Counties and has a similar criminal history in Reno County
The judge also ordered her to pay a $2,500 fine. But her restitution will be determined at a later date.
