Kansas Wesleyan University student Shelby Westfahl was selected as one of two Kansas students for the National Intercollegiate Band. Westfahl, who plays the oboe, is from Hutchinson.
Auditions included a 5-10 minute unedited performance and application process. Westfahl will rehearse and perform at the national conference in Springfield, Mass., from July 21-23. During her time at KWU, Westfahl was involved in the Kansas National Education Association, Kansas Music Educators Association, KWU band, orchestra, and choir, Salina Symphony, Project HERO, and the Percussion Ensemble. She also plays the English horn, flute, and piccolo. Westfahl will student teach in the fall at Hutchinson High School and Wiley Elementary.
