HUTCHINSON, Kan. – It was kind of expected that the state would amend the complaint against a 26-year-old man arrested recently for the sale of drugs.
Jeremy Jiles was arrested back in June on suspicion of being in possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package drugs, possession of a personal use drug paraphernalia criminal possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana. But, he had three other cases pending including an earlier case from this year. Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton combined the charges in the two cases from this year into one criminal complaint adding a charge of racketeering or in the alternative, distribution of marijuana.
The latest arrest coming after the Reno County Drug Unit served a search warrant on his home in the 100 block of George St. They allege they found two vacuum sealed bags with marijuana. They also found a digital scale with marijuana residue on it, two gallon size zip-lock baggies with green vegetation as well as additional new bags. They also found a pair of brass knuckles in a dresser drawer.
One of the other cases against Jiles goes back on February 21. Drug Unit detectives did a search of his apartment back then and allegedly found a black backpack that contained over a pound of marijuana, a digital scale and new packaging materials. They also found a large quantity of cash in his dresser drawer.
In two other cases which goes back to September 20, and January 16, 2013. He is charged with having more then 450-grams of marijuana, as well as packaging materials in both of those. Those two cases stay filed as independent cases.
Jiles is looking at a substantial amount of time in prison if convicted. The racketeering charge alone carries a possible sentence of between 9 and 41-years in prison.
All of the cases will now move to a waiver-status docket and he indicated in court that he plans to retain Wichita Attorney Charlie O’Hara to represent him.
Bond in the case remains at over a million dollars.
