Man arrested after sheriff chase read formal complaint

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The man arrested after a chase through the city which resulted in a two vehicle accident appeared via-video from the county jail Wednesday morning where he was read the formal charges against him.

56-year-old Curtis Cleveland is now charged with three counts of aggravated battery, two with DUI added into the complaint, failure to stop at an accident, felony flee and elude and interference with law enforcement.

He was allegedly fleeing from a sheriffs deputy when he hit a small pick up driven by 26-year-old John Trussell of Hutchinson, at the intersection of G & Plum. Cleveland’s vehicle continued to Campbell Street before coming to rest in the yard of a residence. He then tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended

Trussell and his passenger, a 10-year-old boy were both taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment. A passenger in Cleveland’s vehicle, 37-year-old Nichole Hansen of Wichita, was treated at the scene and released.

The accident happened just before 8:30 p.m., back on June 24.

Bond in the case remains at $50,000. and his case will now move to a waiver-status docket on June 23, in front of Judge Joe McCarville.
