HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The preliminary hearing for a 28-year-old Hutchinson man accused of selling drugs twice to confidential informants last year continues before Judge Joe McCarville. They still have not given closing arguments in the fourth case against Matthew Gullick according to the judge.
Gullick is charged for allegedly selling methamphetamine on July 24, and July 31, of last year. In both cases, law enforcement used two informants to make the buys. Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton informed the judge that he would be adding two additional counts of using a communications device to arrange the drug buys. He was expected to file an amended complaint in the case.
In the first case, he allegedly sold less then a half a gram, and in the second, it was just over two grams. Gulick is also charged with having no tax stamp. He is also facing a charge of racketeering in this case. The hearing went into recess for a time this morning but was expected to resume later.
The state also presented evidence of other crimes including making false writing involving two pawn tickets and also being in possession of stolen property.
He was bound for trial Monday in three other less serious cases and again the preliminary hearing in the drug case continues.
That includes theft of services in a case that goes back to November 12, 2013. That for allegedly stealing a chain saw. But, the state added a an alternate count of possession of stolen property to that case.
Gulick was bound over in another case where he charged with aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim and interference with law enforcement. He’s alleged to have pulled his vehicle in the way of a witness in one of his other cases, gotten out of the vehicle and began yelling at the witness and allegedly threatened to kill them. This allegedly occurring on Friday February 7. The state also added an alternate count of criminal threat to this case.
He was also bound over for theft of property or services and possession of stolen property allegedly occurring back on November 16, 2013. The state added two charges of theft with a value over $1,000. These were added at the end of the preliminary hearing in these two cases.
Gullick remains jailed on a total of $97,000, and Judge McCarville scheduled arguments in the fourth case for 10 a.m., Wednesday morning.
