HUTCHINSON, Kan.— The City of Hutchinson is taking action against skateboarders who have been using George Pyle Park as a playground. Recently the city completed the renovation of the park to the north of City Hall. A significant investment was made by the city of Hutchinson in the renovation of the gazebo and improvements to the park.
Shortly after the dedication of the park, skateboarders appeared in the park and engaged in activities damaging the sides of the ADA ramp and breaking the base of a decorative light fixture.
In order to preserve the improvements at the park and to clarify the prohibition of bicycles, skateboards and in-line skates usage in the park, the city council will propose an ordinance making it unlawful to skate, bike or roller blade in the park.
The matter comes up for action during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
