HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The man suspected of committing 19- local burglaries back on May 14, is still jailed in Sedgwick County.
Joseph Paul Jones Jr. was arrested in Wichita for the warrants stemming from the burglaries and will face multiple charges as a result, however, he also faces charges in Sedgwick County. He has not been brought to Reno County to face charges here yet and there is no indication on when that might happen.
Hutchinson Police Lt. Marty Robertson says Jones also faces charges in Lyon County for alleged crimes in Emporia. Add to that, a violation of his parole for crimes in Missouri, that means it could be awhile before he’s brought back here.
Police stated that between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m., the 19 local businesses were entered by prying open doors or breaking the glass windows with a crow bar. Jones allegedly cut the telephone lines on several of the businesses prior to making entry.
During the investigation, police found surveillance video of the suspect entering Papa Murphy’s Pizza located in the State Fair Shopping Center at 2420 N. Main. Pictures were taken from the video and sent to the media including Hutchpost.
On May 15, police were apparently able to identify Jones as the suspect. Jones is from the area of Springfield, Mo., and has several prior convictions for burglary and theft.
