Remembering D-day 70-years ago

HUTCHINSON, Kan— It was a time to remember the greatest generation and the most significant event in modern gamarhistory. A full house gathered at the Cosmosphere Saturday to remember the Normandy invasion.

It will 70 years ago Friday that the combined allied forces landed on the coast of France and began the drive to take Europe back from the Axis powers. Saturday veterans from all wars, including some who landed on the beaches of France, were there to remember the more than 9,000 American troops who died that day. The speakers for the event Lt. Colonel Charles Gamar, an army veteran and an astronaut on three space shuttle missions. and fourth district Congressman Mike Pompeo, who was in the military during the time of the iron curtain and Berlin wall. Both spoke on the enormity of sacrifice and loss from that day.

The service was emceed by Vietnam veteran William “Buck” Lyle, and colors were presented by the American Legion.
